ABOUT

Our Mission

Our mission is to pour knowledge into the minds of young children aged 5-7 by providing readily available resources to help them begin using the coding platform Scratch, Jr. Our goal is to make it as easy as possible for parents/guardians, teachers, homeschool educators and more to give children access to coding. Early access is critical to developing cognitive, logical and sequencing skills which will serve as a base for a lifetime of intellectual growth. We want to help all children grow into the best people possible!

Our Development

I have always been passionate about coding and children. CodingTiger began as an idea for an independent study program I wanted to pursue through my school, which I am very grateful for. I had the dream of raising money to provide iPads and a teacher guide to our youngest learners in underserved classrooms throughout my community. Then the COVID-19 pandemic began. It became evident with students spending so much time at home that a shift to an online curriculum was needed. This would allow the program to be used at home or in the classroom. It would also expand the number of people CodingTiger could reach. It could now be accessible to homeschooled children, those needing a summer enrichment activity and more.

About Me

Hi everyone! My name is Elizabeth. I am a teenager in Texas passionate about computer science, entrepreneurship, and children. I am so glad you found CodingTiger. Thank you for spending some time here – we are happy to have you!
My interest in coding began when I was in third grade and asked my dad for a Python programming book. After that, the rest is pretty much history! I began to frequent the library, reading anything they had available, from other programming and computer science books to biographies on Steve Jobs, Bill Gates and more. I was known as “Computer Girl” to my classmates. In seventh grade, I participated in the Computer Science series of exams my school offered through the Continental Math League and I received the highest score in the nation! I followed that accomplishment with a week long coding camp for girls at Stanford University. This inspired me to use my skills to somehow give back to others.
Entrepreneurship is in my blood. Both my parents are entrepreneurs and before I could even spell the word I knew what it meant to take an idea you are passionate about, roll up your sleeves and turn it into a venture to share with others. As stated above, I love biographies and especially those on the tech entrepreneurs who have changed our world by pursuing what they love and sharing their knowledge with others. In high school, I am a leader in our Young Entrepreneurial Students club. I love our guest speaker series because it is fascinating to hear their roller coaster stories which are inspiring and encourage us to work hard and innovate.
Finally, I love kids! For as long as I can remember I have loved spending time with young children, whether it be my cousins, the children at Vacation Bible School (my summer volunteer position for years), or the families I assist through my baby-sitting business. All of these experiences have allowed me to pour love, joy, and wisdom into the children I serve.
I never really thought that all of these passions that make up my identity could combine until my dad introduced me to Scratch, Jr. I played with it and realized that I could blend these three loves of mine to create CodingTiger, the educational platform for kids to learn about coding.
Thank you so much for stopping by! I’m glad you made it!
